Vehicle theft is growing at an alarming rate and a significant contributor is the increase in the number of cars fitted with keyless entry systems. Tech-savvy thieves have discovered that these modern security features can be very easy to defeat.
‘Relay Theft’ is a technique adopted by criminals of using a receiver to pick up the signal from a key (which we all typically leave near the front door) and relay this signal back to a second unit adjacent to the vehicle, tricking it into thinking the key is in close proximity.
Not all thieves are necessarily wanting to steal a vehicle and there are growing instances of gangs focused solely on just removing valuables left in vehicles. This is a major new problem for owners as they have no evidence of forced entry which is usually one of the criteria to recover losses from an insurance company.
There is a lot of coverage in the media highlighting that insurance companies are becoming more reticent in paying out claims where there is no evidence of forced entry. A simple solution to prevent this problem occurring is to use a Disklabs Keyshield thereby eliminating the potential stress and frustration of losing valuables left in a car.
The Disklabs Keyshield was developed as a simple and effective way to have assured reliable protection of keys stored in the house and is accredited with ‘UK Police Preferred Specification’
Features of the Keyshield:
• Blocks all RF wireless signals
• Easy to use
• Independently tested
• Functional and stylish design
• Uses military grade waterproof resistant material
• Accredited SBD ‘Police Preferred Specification’
• Designed and manufactured in the UK

Disklabs Faraday Bags have today announced the launch of a new 65-litre capacity holdall shield (HS4) for any applications where there is a need to secure and protect multiple digital devices at the same time.
The development team at Disklabs pioneered the development of the Faraday bag over 10 years ago, and this latest addition to the company’s range products is a result of feedback from customers who want to protect more than one device at the same time,
Corporate
Law Enforcement and Military
The HS4 incorporates the proven Disklabs Faraday Bag technology in a shielded enclosure with dimensions 70cm x 30cm x 30cm. The development of this larger bag presented technical challenges resulting in the new reinforced roll down sealing method secured by a sturdy buckle. This ensures a blocked RF environment even if the bag is compressed or deformed e.g. When trying to find space in an overhead locker. This new bag incorporates load carrying web handle design to support the weight of multiple digital devices. Manufactured in the UK this soft bag also features durable water resistant outer material and a padded removable shoulder strap to ensure comfortable transportation.
In addition to ensuring excellent shielding performance, the Disklabs team carried out a number of real world tests including shipping the bag, at its maximum capacity of 23 Kg, through a number of international airports as hold luggage to ensure it can withstand the rigours of modern day travel.
This is the only bag you will need for those trips where you need efficient storage and the peace of mind that your digital privacy is protected.

The Tax Incentivised Savings Association (TISA) theme for this year’s conference was ‘Social Change -impacting financial services for the better’ with the growing challenges of preventing cybercrime and improving digital security high on the agenda. Disklabs were pleased to have the opportunity to attend in the exhibition area, helping to raise awareness amongst the conference delegates of the growing cyber risks faced by the financial services industry with specific focus on data recovery, digital forensic services and protecting the mobile digital workforce.
Over 350 delegates attended the conference which was supported with a strong panel of speakers from the financial services sector and government including John Glen MP (Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister) and the Rt Hon. Amber Rudd MP (the former Home Secretary who has been recently returned to the cabinet as Work and Pensions Secretary).
In the breakout sessions, many of the conference delegates took the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of using Disklabs Faraday Bags to protect their digital devices. Recent media coverage on the effectiveness of using the police accredited Disklabs Keyshield to prevent ‘relay vehicle theft’ meant that most delegates were familiar with core Disklabs technology however many were unaware of the wider applications for Faraday Bags in protecting phones and computers from hacking and tracking especially when working from home and during the daily commute.
TISA is a growing cross-industry body with over 200-member firms from all areas of UK financial services (Banks, Investment Managers, Life and Pensions Providers, Wealth Managers, Distributors, Online Platforms and Service Providers) The TISA mission is to develop policy, services and infrastructure that promotes consumer’s financial well-being and the strength of the nation. Through this approach, TISA creates an environment for UK financial services to flourish.
TISA has expanded its focus from savings and investment to include the digitalisation of UK financial services. Customers assets have to be protected securely in the new digital world and TISA organises training courses, discussions forums and conferences on the prevention of financial and cybercrime in support of its industry members.

“Disklabs Faraday Bags: Safeguarding Digital Data in an Age of Privacy Concerns”
In an era where data privacy and cybersecurity have taken center stage in the digital world, Disklabs Ltd, a pioneering force in digital forensic services, continues to provide cutting-edge solutions to protect sensitive information. Among their arsenal of tools, Disklabs Faraday Bags have emerged as a vital component in safeguarding digital data against emerging threats, making headlines amid increasing concerns about privacy breaches and electronic eavesdropping.
A Shield Against Emerging Threats
Disklabs Faraday Bags are specialized pouches designed to block all incoming and outgoing signals to electronic devices placed inside them. These bags are constructed using advanced materials that create a Faraday cage, a shield against electromagnetic radiation. This means that when a device is placed inside a Disklabs Faraday Bag, it is effectively isolated from the outside world, preventing unauthorized access, data theft, and tampering.
A Response to a Growing Need
The emergence of Disklabs Faraday Bags in the spotlight coincides with a surge in privacy concerns and cybersecurity threats. With the rapid digitalization of our lives, the amount of personal and sensitive data stored on electronic devices has grown exponentially. From smartphones and tablets to key fobs and laptops, these devices are treasure troves of information that cybercriminals are keen to exploit.
Recent high-profile data breaches and the proliferation of electronic surveillance techniques have heightened these concerns. Individuals, corporations, and government agencies alike are searching for ways to protect their digital assets and sensitive information.
Versatility and Applications
Disklabs Faraday Bags come in various sizes and formats, catering to a wide range of electronic devices. This versatility makes them indispensable for a multitude of industries and applications:
Addressing Emerging Threats
Disklabs Faraday Bags have proven their worth in mitigating emerging threats such as electronic eavesdropping and RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) skimming. RFID skimming involves the unauthorized scanning of RFID-enabled cards (e.g., credit cards and passports) to steal sensitive data. By placing such cards inside a Faraday Bag, individuals can ensure their protection from this type of theft.
Looking Ahead
As the world becomes more interconnected, the need for innovative solutions like Disklabs Faraday Bags will only continue to grow. The news of their effectiveness in safeguarding digital data serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle for privacy and cybersecurity in an increasingly digital age.
Disklabs Ltd’s commitment to staying at the forefront of digital security technology ensures that their Faraday Bags will remain a critical tool in the fight against emerging threats. In an era where data is often considered the new gold, these bags offer a valuable layer of defense against those who seek to exploit it.
In conclusion, the emergence of Disklabs Faraday Bags into the limelight reflects the pressing need for advanced privacy and security measures in today’s digital landscape. With cybersecurity threats on the rise and privacy breaches making headlines, these innovative solutions play a pivotal role in safeguarding digital data and ensuring the protection of sensitive information in an increasingly interconnected world.
Tamworth United Kingdom. 6th March 2018: Developed to prevent ‘relay theft’, Disklabs Keyshield is the first RF blocking product to gain the Secured by Design ‘Police Preferred Specification’ accreditation.
Stealing a car should not be easy, but as recent video footage has shown, for cars fitted with keyless entry systems this is not necessarily the case. Luckily prevention is fairly straightforward with the Disklabs Keyshield.
‘Relay Theft’ is a technique adopted by criminals of using a receiver to pick up the signal from a key (which we all typically leave near the front door) and relay this signal back to a second unit adjacent to the vehicle, tricking it into thinking the key is being held next to it. The vehicle can then be opened and driven away.
Simon Steggles, Founder of Disklabs said ‘None of us would knowingly leave our vehicle in an unsecure environment. However, for the owners of vehicles fitted with keyless entry systems a private driveway or carpark may be just such an environment. There has been a recent spate of publicity about criminals using sophisticated technology to enable a car to be stolen from almost any location using a technique called ‘relay theft’. The Disklabs Keyshield was developed as a simple and effective way to prevent this. Following development of this new product we are delighted it has now been accredited with ‘Police Preferred Specification’ by SBD.

Not many of us would leave a device unattended or unlocked in an unsecured environment, however physically carrying or using a computer, tablet or phone is no guarantee that the device is secure and not at risk from unauthorised intrusion.
Any digital device can be at risk simply by connecting to an unsecured wireless network during your daily commute or in public places and the Disklabs Faraday bag will stop this in its tracks.
The simple substitution of a conventional briefcase or protective sleeve with a faraday shield variant will block connectivity to unsecured networks and malicious tracking applications.

Tamworth United Kingdom. 6th March 2018: The primary purpose of a conventional Notebook sleeve is to protect the device from physical damage, so wouldn’t it be great if it could also protect your data at the same time. The NEW Notebook sleeve from Disklabs does just that.
Not many of us would leave our notebook or laptop unattended in an unsecured environment but in reality, many of us do just this. Physically carrying a device during the daily commute or in public spaces still leaves the risk of connectivity to unsecured wireless networks which can be exploited by hackers.
As a digital forensic specialist company, Disklabs is very aware of these risks and has spent over 20 years helping law enforcement, businesses, government agencies and individuals recover lost and corrupted data, culminating in the development of the new Notebook Shield. Simon Steggles, Disklabs founder said ‘The team at Disklabs have long been aware that prevention is better than cure, and the new Notebook Shield has been developed to block all wireless signals, frustrating the hacker’.
